Dear MBIE,

Thank you for your response, but it appears that you have not provided the requested information. As an Accredited Employer, MBIE is obligated to provide settlement information to its migrant employees. I had specifically requested this information, yet your response only included a link to an Immigration NZ webpage, which does not seem to contain the information I sought.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Walker

Hi Matthew

As per our response it is the Accredited Employers responsibility to provide settlement support to their migrant workers.

Can you please clarify what you are after as we do not hold any resources or information so we would refuse this under section 18(e) as the information does not exist.

This is why we sent you a link to guidance on our website.

Regards

Vicki

Dear MBIE,

Thank you for your reply.

According to Immigration New Zealand's database, the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (NZBN 9429000106078) is currently an Accredited Employer, with its accreditation expiring on 30 September 2024.

You are correct in your response that the Accredited Employer must provide settlement support to their migrant workers.

Therefore, my original request required you to provide a copy of the information or resources that MBIE provides to its migrant workers holding an Accredited Employer Work Visa to help them settle into life in New Zealand.

Please provide a copy of such information/resources as requested. Alternatively, please confirm MBIE does not provide settlement information or provide support to its migrant workers, and therefore such information/resources do not exist.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Walker

Tēnā koe Matthew

I refer to your below email of 8 June 2023 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), information related to the level of support MBIE offers its migrant workers as an Accredited Employer.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request. It will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, by a further 10 working days to Thursday 20 July 2023.

This extension is necessary because a consultation (already in progress), which is necessary to make a decision on your request, is such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. A realistic estimation of workload constraints upon certain teams has also been taken into account when calculating the above timeframe.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a complaint is available at http://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/ or freephone 0800 802 602.
