Shane Gibson made this Official Information request to Ministry of Education
The request was refused by Ministry of Education.
From: Shane Gibson
Dear Ministry of Education,
I would like an extract of the annual amount spent with all suppliers for the 2021/2022 financial year.
I would like this data in an open format, csv or json formats would be suitable.
I would like the following details provided:
- Supplier Name
- Suppliers NZBN number (if available)
- Total Amount Spent
I believe this information would be readily available via an extract from your Accounts Payable system.
I have already received similar data from a number of Government organisations, which implies this information can be treated as open data.
Yours faithfully,
Shane Gibson

Tçnâ koe Shane
Thank you for your email of 27 April 2023 to the Ministry of Education,
that was updated 9 May 2023, requesting the following information:
I would like an extract of the annual amount spent with all suppliers for
the 2021/2022 financial year.
I would like this data in an open format, csv or json formats would be
suitable.
I would like the following details provided:
- Supplier Name
- Suppliers NZBN number (if available)
- Total Amount Spent
Please provide the GST Exclusive amounts.
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act).
The Ministry regularly reports to the Education and Workforce Select
Committee relating to supplier spend as part of the Education Sector
Annual Review. These reviews are conducted at the end of each financial
year, and the next review is scheduled to take place in October 2023. Once
the information for the 2022/23 financial year has been finalised and the
review has been conducted by the Education and Workforce Select Committee,
you will be able to find the report on the Parliament website here:
[1]https://selectcommittees.parliament.nz/r....
To cleanse, verify and finalise the data for release outside of the
Ministry’s scheduled work programme would impose a significant
administrative burden on the Ministry. It is therefore necessary at this
time to refuse your request under section 18(f) of the Act, as the
information requested cannot be made available without substantial
collation or research. However, some information from the previous
financial year may be of interest to you. Information relating to
suppliers is contained in the Ministry’s response to Question 68 of the
2021/22 Annual Review, which can be found on the Parliament website at:
[2]https://www.parliament.nz/resource/en-NZ....
Per your request, we are providing you with a copy of the table at
Question 68, Appendix 10 in Excel format, as attached.
Please note, we may publish this response on our website after five
working days. Your name and contact details will be removed.
Thank you again for your email. You have the right to ask an Ombudsman to
review my decision on your request, in accordance with section 28 of the
Act. You can do this by writing to [3][email address] or to
Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.

Dear Enquiries National,
I have requested data for 2021/2022 not 2022/2023.
Thank you for the excel format for the 2021/2022 consultant spend.
What supplier types are excluded from that spreadsheet?
Yours sincerely,
Shane Gibson
