Dear Auckland Council,

I notice that there are tv screen advertising library events at Takapuna Library.
I am advised that only Library events can be promoted on these screens.
If the screens are paid for by rates why does the library not allow notices from the community and/or other community events?

Kia or Kurien,

 

The digital screens in our libraries are used to display a variety of
content including council and community-led events and promotions
occurring in that library or locally, and for timely regional promotion of
Auckland-wide Council information, such as rates information, holiday
rubbish collection, dog registrations and local elections.

 

The screens are a council asset and require management by staff.  The
creation and management of the content requires their time as well.  If an
event is happening in a community, our library and hub managers have the
discretion to provide space on the digital screens if the event meets
the needs and interests of the local community, if the timing fits with
other promotional information, and if staff have the capacity to assist
with the processes involved.  Events and activities that are offered over
very short timeframes and are of limited interest, may not be able to be
supported for practical reasons.
