From: Jessica Bell
Kia ora Kurien,
Many thanks for your query.
Please see below our response to this OIA request:
Is there any system in place for what you will do with the heat generated

Will you use the heat generated from the underground trains to convert it
to energy?
The project team is currently looking into the feasibility of using air
and water ground source heating and cooling harvesting from a variety of
sources:
o Waste heat from underground adit exhausts
o The ground
o Aquifers
o Water bodies
o Cooling heat rejection
Feasibility will depend on a variety of factors such as:
o The traction system chosen (as AC/DC trains will emit different
amounts of heat)
o The use of the heat, noting that it is “low grade” (not very hot).
It is worth noting, the project team will also be considering harnessing
and using regenerated energy from braking trains as is becoming more
common in modern systems.
Warm regards
Jessica
