Good afternoon J Smith,

We are currently compiling a response to your request for "assault, sexual offences...". We interpret this as being any crime of a violent nature, as well as any crime with a sexual component, which has a wide scope. Can you please confirm that this is correct, or refine your request?

Can you also confirm whether you are asking about guilty findings in civil court as well the military judicial system?

Nga mihi

Dear J Smith,

I refer to your email of 16 March for information about NZDF personnel and discipline. The Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) requires that a decision on your request be provided no later than 20 working days after the day your request was received. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and this email is to notify you of an extension of the time to make a decision, to 30 May.

This extension is necessary because consultations with legal services and searches through personnel records necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.

You retain the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to ask an Ombudsman to review my decision to extend your request.
