Dear Sean
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request, reference R-01-23-8335.
The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, to 10 May 2023.
This extension is necessary as consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Kind regards,
Sophie

Dear Ministerial Services,
The original request was made on March 16 2023. A delay was reported by Ministerial Services on April 12 because a "proper response" could not be delivered in the original time frame. When the proper response was received on May 5 it was that the information requested did not exist. This would have been known at the time the request was made in March. A similar request on March 16 to ESR, which did have information to provide, was met on April 17. Please explain the reason for the delayed response by NZP.
Yours sincerely,
Sean Doyle

Weaselly response as per usual - your tax dollars hard at work in the Police.
A follow up query could pursue:
What forms of “ Impartiality, or bias as it is referred to in the forensic industry, and the management of bias are integrated into forensic training.”?
What forensic training is offered to police staff and copies of these materials? How often is this updated? How is it assessed for efficacy and appropriateness and accuracy?
What “Processes and procedures are in place to counter the effects of bias in the work carried out by Police forensic staff.” How is this monitored and managed? What reporting or audit is undertaken of these processes and lrocedures?
