The request was successful.

Dear Canterbury Regional Council,

What if any provision has been made for the provision of safe (non-slip) flooring systems in Metro buses to prevent passengers from slipping over in wet conditions?

Hi Patrick

Yes we require all buses to have non-slip material in the boarding area
and alongside the centre aisle and all buses are required to meet the
requirements for urban buses as set by Waka Kotahi

Jeremy Dickson

Dear Jeremy Dickson,

I am concerned that the new electric buses on the Orbiter route have flooring that is very slippery in wet conditions. Can you advise me what steps have been taken to ensure compliance with these new buses.

Yours sincerely,

Patrick Dunford

Hi Patrick

The vehicles came as a batch and were approved as meeting the Requirements for Urban Buses before they entered service.

The vehicles have certifications against the standards required by the RUB that are provided by manufacturers.

We have also checked these vehicles and cannot see anything unusual with the flooring material in comparison to other vehicles.

Regards

Jeremy
