This request has been transferred to me in my capacity as the person
responsible for responding to requests under the OIA at Ara Institute of
Canterbury Limited (Ara).

 

I note your original request was.

 

 1. How many placement positions, if any, have been available to students
studying Bachelor of Nursing - Mâori, Bachelor of Nursing – Pacific,
and Bachelor of Nursing at your tertiary education institution
annually over the

past five years?

 2. How many students, if any, have attained a Bachelor of Nursing -
Mâori, Bachelor of Nursing – Pacific, and Bachelor of Nursing degree
at your tertiary education institution annually over the past five
years?
 3. What is the number of students, if any, who have undertaken a
placement as part of a Bachelor of Nursing - Mâori, Bachelor of
Nursing – Pacific, or Bachelor of Nursing degree that your tertiary
education institution, annually, over the past five years?

 

The following information is provided.

 

 1. The Ara Institute of Canterbury offers the following qualification:
CH3730 Bachelor of Nursing. All information provided is based on the
qualification we offer.

 

 2. You have sort to enquire about Bachelor of Nursing - Mâori, Bachelor
of Nursing – Pacific. These qualifications are not offered presently
at Ara. It is anticipated that these may be offered from July 2023.
For that reason, we are unable to provide data connected to a Bachelor
of Nursing – Mâori or Bachelor of Nursing -Pacific. On that basis your
request for that information is refused under section 18(e) of the OIA
as the information requested does not exist. [1]OIA Link

 

 3. Under CH3730: Students must demonstrate clinical competence in the
Competencies for the Registered Nurse scope of practice (NCNZ, 2015).
This is achieved through a minimum of 1100 and up to a maximum of 1500
clinical practice hours in clinical placements. Clinical Placement
occurs in each of the three years of the degree CH3730

 a. Year one: 100 -136 hours
 b. Year two: 500 -660 hours
 c. Year three: 560 -712 hours
 d. Total: 1160 – 1540 Ara Institute of Canterbury Ltd BN offers more
clinical hours than required by NCNZ (1100-1500)

 

 4. The following table answers your data insight requests:

enrolled. This total is for all three years of the degree, as
clinical placement is required in each year of the degree, as
mentioned above.

 

 b. How many students, if any, have attained a Bachelor of Nursing degree
at your tertiary education institution annually over the past five
years? Answer: Please see number of students graduated per annum.
Noting that 2022, is incomplete data, as it is in year and delivery
is still underway.

 

 c. What is the number of students, if any, who have undertaken a
placement as part of a Bachelor of Nursing degree that your tertiary
education institution, annually, over the past five years? Answer:
Please see all students enrolled. This is for all three years of the
degree.
