Dear Matthew,

I refer to your request of 15 September 2022. As consultations necessary
to make a decision on your request are such that a response cannot
reasonably be given within the original time limit, the University has
extended the time limit for your request until 10 November 2022 under
section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA. This is the new maximum time limit for the
University’s response; we will respond to your request as soon as
reasonably practicable. You have the right to make a complaint to an
Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied with this extension.

Yours sincerely,

From: Landon Watt
University of Auckland

Dear Matthew,

I refer to your request of 15 September 2022. The University’s response
follows.

In response to your requests for statistics concerning a Bachelor of
Nursing – Mâori or a Bachelor of Nursing – Pacific, the University of
Auckland does not offer either of these degrees.

“How many students, if any, have attained a … Bachelor of Nursing degree
at your tertiary education institution annually over the past five years?”

The number of students who graduated the University of Auckland with a
Bachelor of Nursing degree in a given year is publicly available on the
University’s website – see the following webpage:
[1]https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/for/curren....
This part of your request is refused under section 18(d) of the OIA.

“How many placement positions, if any, have been available to students
studying … Bachelor of Nursing at your tertiary education institution
annually over the past five years?”

The School of Nursing negotiates placements with a wide range of health
and disability care providers:

o Year 1 students have 15 days in an acute hospital setting.
o Year 2 semester 1 students have 28 days in an acute hospital setting
o Year 2 semester 2 students have 20 days in a mental health setting and
16 days in a disability setting
o Year 3 semester 1 students have 15 days in a child health setting and
12 days in an aged care setting
o Year 3 semester 2, students have 45 days in a clinical area

The number of placements in any given year can be derived from the
information provided above and statistics on how many Year 1, Year 2 and
Year 3 Bachelor of Nursing students there were for the relevant year. The
University will provide this information as soon as reasonably
practicable.

“What is the number of students, if any, who have undertaken a placement
as part of a … Bachelor of Nursing degree that your tertiary education
institution, annually, over the past five years?”

Placements are a part of each year of the Bachelor of Nursing, so the
requested statistic is the same as the number of students enrolled in the
BNurs for a given year. The University will provide these statistics for
2018-2022 as soon as reasonably practicable.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.

Yours sincerely,

Landon Watt
