Advisory opinion to MTG on Tirikatene-Sullivan exhibition

Cheryl Beauchamp made this Official Information request to Electoral Commission

The request was successful.

From: Cheryl Beauchamp

Dear Electoral Commission,

On 19 August 2014, Hawke's Bay Today reported that "Napier's MTG has been forced to delay the launch of an exhibition of late MP Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan's clothing after the Electoral Commission raised concerns the display could influence voters on election day."

I request under the Official Information Act all correspondence between MTG and the Commission on this matter, and in particular any advice and request for advice about compliance with the Electoral Act 1993.

Yours faithfully,

C Beauchamp (Mrs)

It may pay to send them a followup saying that you are happy for this information to be released after October 4. Section 204I Electoral Act 1993 forbids release of advisory opinions before the return of the writ, and specifically overrides the OIA.
