Emails sent and received by Minister for Ethnic Affairs in July
Joshua Grainger made this Official Information request to Minister for Ethnic Communities
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Minister for Ethnic Communities should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Joshua Grainger
Dear Acting Minister for Ethnic Affairs,
I wish to request under the OIA any emails sent and/or received by the Minister for Ethnic Affairs (Judith Collins MP) from the 1st of July 2014 until the 7th of July 2014.
Yours faithfully,
Joshua Grainger
From: Hekia Parata (MIN)
Minister for Ethnic Communities
On behalf of Hon Hekia Parata thank you for your email. Your
correspondence has been noted and will be recorded.
All correspondence, including email, is routed through our mail tracking
process. Although e-mail increases the speed of delivery, the
“behind-the-scenes” efforts of the Minister’s staff in responding to
mail cannot always provide the kind of speedy response users of email may
anticipate.
While the Minister considers all correspondence to be important, if it is
obvious that you are writing only to express a personal view your opinion
will be noted but a response beyond this acknowledgement may not be sent.
If you are inviting the Minister to attend an event you are organising,
our office will be in touch shortly.
Kind regards
Office of Hon Hekia Parata, MP

Dear Hekia Parata (MIN),
Thank you very much for your fast reply: it is much appreciated.
Can you also please pass on to the DIA that I am interested in any emails sent in a Ministerial capacity from an email address other than the official one? It has been revealed before that Ministers have used private email addresses to conduct Ministerial business so I am interested to see if the Minister for Ethnic Affairs has done the same in the past.
If the DIA would not hold this information can you please retain this component of the information request with the Minister for Ethnic Affairs?
Yours sincerely,
Joshua Grainger

I would be complaining about the way this has been handled. The time that has taken to not get access to any of the material requested is unacceptable.
Things to do with this request
- Add an annotation (to help the requester or others)
- Download a zip file of all correspondence

I'm a bit cautious about this transfer: I asked explicitly for information held by the Minister for Ethnic Affairs, which is a legal personality separate from Judith Collins MP. Hekia Parata is now the person holding the office of Minister for Ethnic Affairs, which means should hold all information held by the Minister for Ethnic Affairs. I'll see where this request goes: maybe the result will be the same.
