I am requesting the employment status of Dr Byung Chan Kim, who was convicted of assault in 2018 as a medical student.
I seek the following:
- Is he, or will he be a qualify registered medical practitioner under MCNZ?
- Which hospital is he (or will he be) employed at?
- Are there any safety measures in place to protect patients and staff under his care?

Interestingly, a current search of the name "Byung Chan Kim" on the Medical Council New Zealand registry database now shows that Byung Chan Kim (an Otago graduate) is permitted to practise medicine in the position of House Officer in accredited clinical attachments at Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Tairāwhiti.
