Payments to the Law Firm of Luke Cunningham Clere from January to August 2022

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for anna goodwin to read a recent response and update the status.

From: anna goodwin

Dear Ministry of Health,

Dear Ministry of Health,

In April 2022 the New Zealand Herald and RNZ reported concerns by Disability advocate Jane Carrigan that the Ministry of Health would seemingly rather pay attorneys than actually meet the needs of the people of Aotearoa. The MoH apparently spent $600k to their lawyers to avoid a settlement of $20k in one particular instance.
The MoH seems to be conducting a veritable Inquisition against a handful of medical practitioners in a Customary Maori law jurisdiction that have caused no harm to anyone. With such a disproportionate effort one must ask if this is a wise use of the public purse. Please therefore provide the following:

1. The number of hours and associated salary support that the Ministry of Health has allocated for Jane I Birdsall and her staff from 01 January to 15 August 2022 to investigate the Wakaminenga Health Council (WHC) and any affiliated practitioners.

2. Payments by the Ministry of Health to the law firm of Luke Cunningham Clere from 01 January 2022 to 16 August 2022 for the investigation and inquisition related to the Wakaminenga Kaunihera Hauora Health Council (WHC), its agents, and registered practitioners.

3. Payments to any and all ancillary personnel to obtain testimony from current or former clients of practitioners affiliated with the WHC.

Yours faithfully,

anna goodwin
