Dear Mr Helm

Extension of request for official information

Thank you for your email to the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs)
dated 30 July 2022, requesting the following information under the
Official Information Act 1982:

1. How many ANPR cameras does Customs use, monitor, or otherwise have
access to? (Including third party access).

2. What Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) databases does Customs
have access to?

3. Does Customs have any contracts or integration with Securogroup,
SaferCities, Auror, or vGRID?

4. What software, database, or other method of access is used to remotely
view video feeds from third parties such as Howick Village Association.
See
[1]https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlo...

Customs is unable to process your request within the original time frame
because the consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are
such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made
within the original time limit. Customs is therefore extending the
timeframe for a response by an additional 20 working days (counted from 26
August 2022 which was the statutory date it was initially due) pursuant to
section 15A(1)(b) of the Act.

The new due date for your request is 23 September 2022. Customs will
provide a response to you as soon as reasonably practicable and as soon as
it becomes available.

You have the right, by way of complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman
under section 28(3) of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of the
decisions conveyed in this letter.

Yours sincerely

For those following this request and my research, please note that this response acknowledges NZ Custom's use of Auror - hosts of an ANPR database.

For clarification, this access will not be within the capacity of a retailer like most Auror retail users. Rather, Customs will have access similar to that of the Police: access to the entire ANPR database with the ability to conduct live tracking and retrospective searches.
