Grade request
AM made this Official Information request to University of Otago
The request was successful.
From: AM
Dear University of Otago,
I am requesting a spreadsheet or document containing confirmed grades of PACI201 and POLS319 in semester 1 2022. This need not contain further data other than their overall grades. To clarify, I am asking for the specific grade percentage, not merely the grade letter. I am in NZ pursuant to the Act.
Yours faithfully,
AM

I refer to your information request dated 1 July 2022 made under the
Official Information Act 1982 (Act). You have requested mark and grade
distributions for the PACI201 and POLS319 papers for Semester 1 2022.
Subject to the below comments, please find attached the information you
have requested.
• Students who withdrew from the papers are not included in the
data.
• Given that only one student failed POLS319 (i.e. received a
grade of FD or FE), we have determined that it is necessary to withhold
the mark and specific grade for this student to protect this individual’s
privacy and wellbeing. This is consistent with section 9(2)(a) of the Act.
We consider that withholding this information is necessary to protect
against the identity of the student being determined or inferred, and
their personal information (i.e. their marks) could be disclosed. We
consider that good reasons exist for withholding this information and this
is not outweighed by other considerations which would make it desirable,
in the public interest, to make the information available.
I trust you will find this information helpful.
We note your right to seek a review of these decisions via a complaint to
an Ombudsman. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any
concerns with you first.
Ngâ mihi
Kelsey
