COSC201, COSC202, COSC203, and COSC204 are new for this year, replacing COSC241, COSC242, COSC243, and COSC244. Also, COSC348 hasn't been a thing in quite a few years, maybe you meant COSC349?

I refer to your email sent 8 July 2022 requesting the grade breakdowns for COSC241, COSC242, COSC243, and COSC244. We will be treating this request as a new information request under the Official Information Act 1982.

If we have any questions or need to seek clarification we will be in touch soon. Otherwise, we will seek to respond to your request as soon as practicable and no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received (by 5 August 2022 – “working days” as defined in the Act). We refer to your information request dated 8 July 2022 made under the
Official Information Act 1982 (Act). You have requested grade
distributions for the COSC241, COSC242, COSC243 and COSC244 papers for
2019, 2020 and 2021.

Subject to the below comments, please find attached the information you
have requested.

o students who withdrew from the papers are excluded from the data.

o we note that only one student received an Aegrotat grade across the
three year period in COSC241, COSC242 and COSC244. We have determined
that it is necessary to withhold the specific year each of these
students received an Aegrotat grade to protect their privacy and
wellbeing. This is consistent with section 9(2)(a) of the Act. We
consider that withholding this information is necessary to protect
against the identity of these students being determined or inferred,
and their personal information (i.e. their grades) could be disclosed.

o given that only three students failed COSC243 in 2020 (i.e. received a
grade of FD or FE), we have determined that it is necessary to
withhold the specific grades for these students to protect their
privacy and wellbeing.  Therefore, we have grouped these students
together, consistent with section 9(2)(a) of the Act. We consider that
withholding this information is necessary to protect against the
identity of these students being determined or inferred, and their
personal information (i.e. their grades) could be disclosed.

o in both of the above cases, we consider that good reasons exist for
withholding this information and this is not outweighed by other
considerations which would make it desirable, in the public interest,
to make the information available.

We trust you will find this information helpful.

We note your right to seek a review of these decisions via a complaint to
an Ombudsman. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any
concerns with you first.

Ngā mihi

Richard Hogg
