Parent Residency Visa EOI selection

A KS made this Official Information request to Michael Wood

The request was partially successful.

From: A KS

Hon. Mr. Michael Wood,

My OIA is related to the Parents Residency Visa Category. The EOI selection for this visa category is suspended since 2016 and was briefly opened in 2020 after a review , but was suspended again due to COVID. Government has resumed the selection of skilled migrants EOI and RV2021 option but there has been no update on the resumption of the EOI selection for the parent category visa. There are around 6000 EOIs with 9000 persons waiting to be considered.

Many EOIs meet the new income criteria.
The uncertainty and delays are affecting the life of migrant families who have contributed a lot to NZ. Govt should empathise with the families who have been waiting for 6 years.
The first review of this category took 3 years but by citing the COVID reason it has been delayed. Govt has done a lot of work on this already .

1:- Could you advice by when EOI selection of this category be started ( any definite date) ? If you don’t have a date , by when that would be decided ?

2:- What is the policy of the government for the EOIs that currently meet the income criteria which was decided in the last review ?

3:- In the past, labour government had done a lot of reviews and there were some options for low income criteria too . Is there a still need for another review when government had taken a lot of advice on it during 2018/19 review ( and later ) and government already had review options from INZ ? ( as per the MBIE public document library ).

Yours faithfully,

A KS
