Planned Interoperability of Digital Covid Certificates

David Beath made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for David Beath to read recent responses and update the status.

From: David Beath

Dear Ministry of Health,

Can you please confirm whether or not the NZ "My Vaccine Pass" Digital Covid Certificate that is used within NZ conforms to the EU DCC standard, and whether Digital Covid Certificates granted using the EU DCC standard overseas are recognised as valid by the official "NZ Pass Verifier" scanner application.

If EU DCC standard overseas Digital Covid Certificates are not recognised as valid within NZ, then can you please provide all relevant information regarding the decision as to why the "NZ Pass Verifier" does not recognise the EU DCC standard.
In this case, I also ask that the MoH provide information as to when implementation of the reciprocity agreement is planned, so that travellers from overseas will be able to use their existing EU DCC certificates within NZ.

I ask this question because statements by the NZ Ministry of Health, MFAT, and the "Commission Implementing Decisions (EU) on the equivalence of COVID-19 certificates issued by non-EU countries" appear to confirm that there should be reciprocity between Digital Covid Certificates issued in NZ and in the EU.

However, information on the MoH website indicates that travellers into NZ who have an EU DCC standard Covid Certificate must instead apply for an NZ "My Vaccine Pass" certificate.

Yours faithfully,

David Beath
