Dear Peace,

I refer to your request of 6 February 2022 for information concerning
Bachelor of Optometry admissions statistics for the University of Auckland
for 2015-2022.

“1. Minimum number of seats available each year (for both first year and
graduate)”

There is no minimum number of seats available each year – there is instead
a maximum number of seats available each year. The number of available
seats in a programme for a given year is as set out in the Limitations
Schedule for that year to the Limitation of Entry Statute 1991, as
published in the University Calendar. University calendars are publicly
available here: [1]https://www.calendar.auckland.ac.nz/en.h... and
[2]https://www.calendar.auckland.ac.nz/en/a...

This constitutes a refusal of this part of your request under section
18(d) of the OIA, as the information requested is publicly available.

The University does not hold the quartile information requested; parts 6
and 8 of your request are refused under section 18(g) of the OIA.

We have decided to grant your request for parts 2-5, 7, and 9-13. However,
given the amount of resource required to process your request, we have
decided to charge for making the requested information available in
accordance with the 2002 Ministry of Justice Official Information Act
charging guidelines. This means that the University would charge $76 per
hour (to the nearest half-hour) for the staff time required to make the
information requested available to you, after an initial uncharged hour.
We estimate that the maximum charge for your requests will be $228. Before
we proceed further with your request, please confirm your agreement to the
charge by 22 February 2022 – we will then provide you with instructions on
how to pay the charge. Any unused component of this charge will be
refunded to you. If we do not hear back from you by 22 February 2022 we
will close the file for this request on the basis that you have not agreed
to pay the charge.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.

Yours sincerely,

Rebecca Ewert

General Counsel

University of Auckland

Dear Rebecca Ewert,

I amend my request to ONLY data for the year 2022 instead of the past seven years.
Will this reduce the resources needed, thus cancelling the charges?
If so, please provide the data.
Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Peace Y.
