Hi Joshua,

I refer to your submission through the FYI website asking for shoplifting
data for Hamilton City.

I can tell from the wording of your submission that you have an
understanding of Police processes, however I would still like to discuss
in more detail what information you are requesting. For example, are you
only interested in events that were initially categorised as requiring a
timely Police response? If you are happy to reply with your phone number
I’ll give you a call, otherwise we can correspond by email.

Dear ANAMANI, Nicola,

I am looking for data from any call made to 111 regarding shoplifting regardless of the priority in the CARD system. Sorry for the confusion.

Additionally, is it possible to provide data on all shoplifting cases for Hamilton City in a spreadsheet outside of those reported to 111. For example those reported through 105/105 Online, CRL and Auror.
For this I would ask for the following columns,
- Date/Time of event
- Date/Time reported
- Location
- Event Number (XXXX/XXXX or PXXXXXXXXX)
- Result (Offender Charged/ Charges dropped etc)

Yours sincerely,

Joshua Rogers

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the clarification. We will explain more thoroughly in our official response, but we cannot identify shoplifting events that came in on 111 as opposed to 105, the *555 traffic line or other phone numbers answered by Police. I take it that by asking for 111 your intention is to obtain information relating to emergency shoplifting events, so we will provide the requested data for anything that was assigned a 'Priority 1' meaning an immediate threat to [life or] property.

Your additional questions will be logged as a separate OIA request. This is for a few reasons, the main ones being that the response will need to come from a different team within Police and I understand that this second set of questions requires more work to answer so I would not want to delay the response to your initial questions unnecessarily. You can expect to hear confirmation that your request has been logged, including a reference number, within a few days.

Tēnā koe Joshua

I refer to your request of 11 February 2022  for the following
information:

Additionally, is it possible to provide data on all shoplifting cases for
Hamilton City in a spreadsheet outside of those reported to 111. For
example those reported through 105/105 Online, CRL and Auror.

For this I would ask for the following columns,

- Date/Time of event

- Date/Time reported

- Location

- Event Number (XXXX/XXXX or PXXXXXXXXX)

- Result (Offender Charged/ Charges dropped etc)

I have been asked to advise you that Police requires an extension of time
in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of the
Official Information Act  1982 (OIA). Specifically section 15A(1)(b),
consultations necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a
proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the
original time limit.

Police requires until 1 April 2022 to provide a substantive response to
your request. We are endeavouring to provide this to you as soon as
possible.

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to
an Ombudsman about this extension.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this
decision, please feel free to contact

Good Morning Joshua

in relation to your request for information regarding shoplifting in
Hamilton City from the period of 01/01/2018 - 05/02/2022, your request has
been considered in accordance with the Official Information Act 1982.

Attached is a spreadsheet providing information for the period. Additional
detail has been provided which I hope will be of help. The second
tab provides statistical data for the reporting channel. The increase in
email reports over the period is believed to be related to the increase in
reports through the Auror platform.

I apologise for the delay in obtaining this information.

If you have any questions you may contact me.
