Briefings to the leader of the opposition

Dear New Zealand Security Intelligence Service,

Section 4AA of the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service Act 1969 requires the SIS to be politically neutral. As part of this, section 4AA(3) requires the Director to "consult regularly with the Leader of the Opposition for the purpose of keeping him or her informed about matters relating to security".

I would like to request the following information under the OIA:

* On how many occasions in the past year did the Director consult with the leader of the opposition as required by s4AA(3)? For each occasion, I would like the date, and if known, the duration of consultation (I assume topics will be withheld under s6(a) OIA).

I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the fyi.org.nz website.
