We refer to your information request dated 26 November 2021 and made under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act).
Your request in its current form is very complex and will take our staff extensive time to research and collate the information. We also note that the University only calculates the weighted GPA, so the information you have requested in relation to the degree used for application would require extensive manual calculation. Typically, when processing requests such as yours, we are likely to consider either proposing a charge or declining the request pursuant to section 18(f) of the Act on the basis that the request requires substantial collation or research.
Can you please confirm that you would be willing to pay a charge. In accordance with guidance from the Office of the Ombudsman, the rate we charge at is $38 per half hour, with the first hour free. Alternatively, are you able to reconsider the scope of your request to assist with making it more practically manageable to process? As an example, we can provide you with, at no cost, the upper quartile, lower quartile and median of the weighted GPA only for successful graduate entry BDS applicants for the 2020 and 2021 BDS programmes. Would that suffice?
We will wait to hear back from you before we continue to process your request.

We refer to your information request dated 1 January 2022 made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
The Act requires that we advise you of our decision no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit. We are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act, of a short extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your request, by a further 2 working days – to 16 February 2022.
This extension is necessary to allow for consultations necessary to make a decision on your request. As you may appreciate our staff are currently engaged in urgent and important work, and necessary consultation is taking a bit longer than normal.
We apologise for the delay and thank you for your patience. We will endeavour to provide the information sooner if possible.
If you are not satisfied with our extension of time, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
