Re your request of 22 November 2021 for copies of emails between the NZSIS and a number of media outlets / people, it is necessary for us to consult those listed in your request before making a decision. This is because the correspondence relates to these external third parties, and we consider we should provide them opportunity to comment before any release.
Ordinarily we would be required to respond to your request within 20 working days. However, that timeframe can be extended if the necessary consultations cannot be completed in time. In this case, we need to extend the deadline for our response until 9 February 2022, to enable such consultations to occur.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this extension.
