Missing half million in reported Acupuncture spend in 2004/2005.

Gold made this Official Information request to Accident Compensation Corporation

Accident Compensation Corporation did not have the information requested.

From: Gold

Dear Accident Compensation Corporation,

On 20th May, 2014 your office responded to an OIA request for Money spent on alternative therapies (update)[1]. The amount listed for Acupuncture in 2003/2004 was $4,424,458.

On 10th December, 2004 Dr Paul Hutchison asked Hon Ruth Dyson (Minister for ACC) a similar question[2]. The amount quoted at that time[3] was $4,940,613.

There is a discrepancy of $516,155 that appears to have been removed in the last 10 years. I could understand an increase as late claims are processed but to have a reduction feels odd to me.

Can the ACC explain the missing amount please.

Yours faithfully,

Gold

This question was answered, after a fashion, in another OIA request I had in the system. It can be located here;

https://fyi.org.nz/request/1624-money-sp...

In summary though;
* Over the years accounting systems change
* Data migration isn't perfect.
* We're unable to work out how (the exact query) that number was reached.

This is less than satisfactory in my mind.

Regards,
Gold
