Dear Richard MacDonald,
Thank you for your email of 13 September 2021 which was transferred by the
Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet to the Ministry of Business,
Innovation and Employment (the Ministry) on 17 September 2021. Your
request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) is for the
following information:
What is the occupancy rate in MIQ Hotels from April 2020 to date?
I am refusing your request under section 18(d) of the Act because the
information you have requested is publicly available.
The Ministry began its oversight of Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ)
in July 2020 and publishes an MIQ daily update factsheet on its website
here:
[1]https://www.mbie.govt.nz/business-and-em....
The factsheets contain information on projected total rooms allocations,
the number of people in Managed Isolation Facilities and Quarantine
Facilities, and an explanation of operational capacity.
All of the daily factsheets are available in the Ministry’s Document
Library ([2]https://www.mbie.govt.nz/document-librar...) and can be
found using the keyword ‘MIQdata’ and the Document Type
‘Factsheet/brochure’.
The Ministry does not hold information prior to having responsibility for
MIQ and therefore is unable to provide data for the period April 2020
until early July 2020. The MIQ system was designed and implemented rapidly
and the Ministry is not able to retrieve data from the agencies that held
responsibility during that time.
I hope you find this information useful.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[3]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
