Dear New Zealand Police,
Around December 2020 Police changed their pursuit policy.
My questions in relation to this are:
- For 2 years prior to the change, how many pursuits/fleeing driver incidents were there.
- Of these incidents, what percentage resulted in the driver being identified.
- Of these incidents, how many resulted in serious crashes.
- Since the change in policy, how many pursuit/fleeing driver incidents have there been.
- Of these incidents, what percentage resulted in the driver being identified.
- Of these incidents, how many resulted in serious crashes.

Thank you for the prompt reply.
The answer has raised a few more questions I'd like to seek some information for. Can a column be added showing the following:
- for each year, the percentage of fleeing driver incidents where a pursuit was initiated
- for each of those pursuits, how many were abandoned
- percentage of fleeing driver incidents where the police helicopter was used
Can the whole dataset please be pushed out to include from 2010 -2021. Looking for a reason for the declining amount of offenders identified, 58% - 35% is a pretty big drop.
I also seek clarification to one point. My initial question was seeking data of when the driver specifically was identified, the answer given talks about offenders. I just want to confirm offenders is in fact the driver and not other people that may have been in the car at the time.
