As a NZ Citizen and resident, I request the following information under the OIA.

1) The number of ANPR cameras in-use or accessible (e.g. capable of generating a notification to NZ Police) by the NZ Police at the current time?

2) A copy of the applicable Police operational polices (or equivalent documents) covering the criteria or situations in which ANPR cameras are judged suitable for use, and/or are prohibited from use.

3) A copy of the Privacy Impact Asessment (or equivalent documents) covering NZ Police use of ANPR technology.

I have been asked to advise you that Police requires an extension of time
in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of the
Official Information Act (OIA). Specifically, 15A(1)(b), consultations
necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a proper
response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time
limit.

 

Police require until 7 September 2021 to provide a substantive response to
your request.

 

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to
an Ombudsman about this extension.

Unfortunately we are not going to be able to meet the extended due date of
7 September 2021.

 

I can confirm that a response to your request has been drafted and is
currently progressing through our internal consultation process.

 

Although I am unable to confirm a release date at this stage, in normal
circumstances this process can take up to eight working days.
