NZTA & Auckland Harbour Bridge Incident: 30 May 2021
Matthew Hooton made this Official Information request to New Zealand Transport Agency
Response to this request is long overdue. By law New Zealand Transport Agency should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Matthew Hooton
Dear Waka Kotahi NZTA
Under the OIA, I request all information held by Waka Kotahi NZTA about the incident on Auckland Harbour Bridge on Sunday 30 May, prior to, during and after the incident. (This media report refers: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/cycling-pr... )
In particular, I am interested in what advance warning Waka Kotahi or any of its directors, employees, consultants or other agents had of the incident, and what actions were taken to encourage, deter, facilitate or prevent the incident.
However, please note that my request is broad, and includes all information as stated.
Yours sincerely
Matthew Hooton

Dear Official Correspondence,
Thank you for your initial reply.
Could you please advise who you are consulting, why it couldn't be done within legislated timelines, and why you need another 10 working days to do it.
Thank you
Yours sincerely,
Matthew Hooton
From: Official Correspondence
New Zealand Transport Agency
Dear Matthew,
Thank you for your email below about the consultations necessary in order to respond to your request for official information.
The documentation that falls within the scope of your request requires substantial internal consultation with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency's communications, legal and privacy teams as well as the Auckland Transport Operations Centre (ATOC) and Auckland regional relationships teams involved in the response. External consultations are required with Auckland Transport and NZ Police, who were involved in the planning and delivery of the response to the Liberate a Lane protest. The Ombudsman’s guidance specifies that 5–10 working days would generally be regarded as a reasonable period for a third party to provide a comment, but more time sometimes is required depending on the volume of information, complexity of issues, the reasonable availability of the party being consulted and so on. We have made our decision to extend based on the above. However, should the consultations take less time, we endeavour to respond to you without undue delay.
