I request a breakdown of the following
Number of devices that police wanted access to in regards to a search and were not assisted with (refusal to provide PIN number/password). Section 130 of the search and surveillance act 2012.
Of the seized devices (where the pin/password wasn’t provided), the number of devices that were able to be be accessed/unlocked by other means such as brute force, external tools or hacking etc.

Some of the information may not exist in an easily retrievable manner, but
as a first step can you put a time frame around this request eg 1/1/2018-
1/1/2021.

I have been asked to advise you that Police requires an extension of time
in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of the
Official Information Act (OIA). Specifically, 15A(1)(b), consultations
necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a proper
response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time
limit.
Police require until 1 July 2021 to provide a substantive response to your
request.
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to
an Ombudsman about this extension.
