Please supply the following information under the [Official Information Act (OIA) / Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA)]:
1. Does the organisation carry out drugs and alcohol testing (among employees or other persons)?
2. If drug and alcohol testing does take place at the organisation:
a. Who currently provides the testing service i.e., name of service provider(s)?
b. For each (named) service provider:
i. What is the nature of the drug & alcohol testing service delivered e.g., saliva, urine, breath and alcohol and synthetic cannabinoids?
ii. In what geographic location(s) is the service delivered?
iii. Is the service provided under contract? If yes:
1. How many contracts does the provider have with your organisation?
2. What is the term of that/those contract(s)?
3. What is the dollar value of that/those contract(s)?
4. Are there options for renewing that/those contract(s)?
c. What organisation(s)/company(ies) previously conducted drug and alcohol testing for your organisation (repeat all of ‘b’ for previous service providers)?

information on Drug & alcohol pathology/testing at Whangarei District
Council

 

Your request was referred to council’s People & Capability Department for
consideration and the answers to each of your questions are as follows:

 

1.           Does the organisation carry out drugs and alcohol testing
(among employees or other persons)?

In accordance with our policy we carry out drug/alcohol testing in
situations where there is reasonable cause and preemployment for some
specific safety sensitive roles

2.      If drug and alcohol testing does take place at the organisation:

a.      Who currently provides the testing service i.e., name of service
provider(s)?

                Staffcare

b.      For each (named) service provider:

i.      What is the nature of the drug & alcohol testing service delivered
e.g., saliva, urine, breath and alcohol and synthetic cannabinoids?

                Urine

ii.     In what geographic location(s) is the service delivered?

                Whangarei

iii.    Is the service provided under contract? If yes:

                No

1.      How many contracts does the provider have with your organisation?
 None

2.      What is the term of that/those contract(s)? Not Applicable

3.      What is the dollar value of that/those contract(s)? Not Applicable

4.      Are there options for renewing that/those contract(s)? Not
Applicable

c.      What organisation(s)/company(ies) previously conducted drug and
alcohol testing for your organisation (repeat all of ‘b’ for previous
service providers)?

                Previously we used Greencross for this work, we did not
have a contract with them

Prior to that we used Company Health, we did not have a contract with them

 

I hope this information is of some assistance in responding to your
request.   If you believe we have not responded appropriately to your
request, you have the right by way of complaint, under section 27(3) of
the Act, to apply to the Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review of
the decision.
