Tim made this Official Information request to Matamata-Piako District Council

The request was partially successful.

From: Tim

Dear Matamata-Piako District Council,

How many water quality complaints have been received in the past 2020-21 year, including CRM logged complaints, social media complaints, Antenno complaints, phone complaints that were not logged via CRM.

By water quality, I mean dirty water, no water, lack of pressure, or other issues including harmful water, that is, increased in chemicals that cause skin irritation etc.

Yours faithfully,

Tim

Matamata-Piako District Council

Dear Tim

You requested the water quality complaints that have been received in the
past 2020-21 year by Matamata-Piako District Council.

All complaints whether via our infoline email, Antenno, Social Media or
Phone are all put in as CRMs to be recorded and actioned. The drinking
water specific issues that you are asking about is information that
Council is required to gather each year for the Annual Report under the
Local Government Act 2002. The information you are after for the 2019/20
year can be found at our [1]website on page 128. The information for the
2020/21 year is still being collated and will not be due for release until
October 2021.

It should be noted that the information contained in the Annual Report is
not the total number of complaints received by Council, as staff go
through and remove complaints if they are not related to any of the areas
that we assess for drinking water (which are, Drinking water clarity,
Drinking water taste, Drinking water odour, Drinking water pressure or
flow, Continuity of supply, and Council’s response to any of these
issues), or if it was a private issue or if the issue(s) were caused by a
contractor.

For the reasons stated above, staff are unable to release the information
relating to the water for the 2020-21 year as it is not yet complete and
would take substantial collation to gather that information for you,
therefore under s17(f) of the Local Government Official Information and
Meetings Act 1987 we must refuse your request due to substantial collation
required.

You have the right, by way of making a complaint to an Ombudsman (under
section 27(3) of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings
Act 1987), to seek an investigation and review of Council’s decision, more
information on this process can be found at
[2]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

Kind Regards
Ellie
