This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Tim Russell to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Tim Russell

Dear Ministry of Education,

I would like to know the status of the now closed Manutahi School in Ruatoria. When did this school close? Has the property been sold? and, if so, who owns the site and buildings?

Yours faithfully,

T. C. Russell.

Tēnā koe Tim

Thank you for your email of 29 March 2021 to the Ministry of Education
requesting the following information about the now closed Manutahi School
in Ruatōria:

o When did the school close
o Has the property been sold?
o And, if so, who own the site and the buildings?

Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act).

Manutahi School voluntarily merged with Ngata Memorial College in July
2001. Official notice of this can be found at New Zealand Gazette here:
[1]https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2001-g...

In 2012 the land was assigned for disposal and is therefore owned by the
Crown. A decision is currently awaited from the Māori Land Court as to
possibly vesting the land in the descendants of the previous owners. The
property is managed by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and the contact
person for enquiries, both about the condition of the site and the
disposal process itself, can be found on our website at:
[2]https://www.education.govt.nz/assets/Doc...

Please note, the Ministry now proactively publishes OIA responses on our
website. As such, we may publish this response on our website after five
working days. Your name and contact details will be removed.

Thank you again for your email. You have the right to ask an Ombudsman to
review this decision. You can do this by writing to
[3][email address] or Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152,
Wellington 6143.

Ngā mihi
