I would like to request under the OIA the following information:
1) For the years 2006 to 2015 a list of all of meetings of the Bali Process at which NZ was represented and a list of all the participants from all countries at each of those meetings.
2) for the years 2006 to 2015 a list of all joint operations New Zealand participated in overseas to disrupt people smuggling ventures
3) any advice provided to Cabinet or Ministers such as briefings, aide memories, memos, advice, draft or final cabinet papers (excluding briefings the the incoming minister) regarding the treatment of asylum seekers in New Zealand from 2015 to present.

On behalf of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment I
acknowledge your email of 5^th December 2020 requesting under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
“1) For the years 2006 to 2015 a list of all of meetings of the Bali
Process at which NZ was represented and a list of all the participants
from all countries at each of those meetings.
2) for the years 2006 to 2015 a list of all joint operations New Zealand
participated in overseas to disrupt people smuggling ventures
3) any advice provided to Cabinet or Ministers such as briefings, aide
memories, memos, advice, draft or final cabinet papers (excluding
briefings the the incoming minister) regarding the treatment of asylum
seekers in New Zealand from 2015 to present.”
Please note that the days from 24 December 2020 to 17 January 2021
(inclusive) are defined as non- working days in the Act and are not
counted in the calculation for the response due date. This will affect the
time period for responding to your request.
Your request is being processed in accordance with the Act and a response
will be sent to you in due course.
Please note, due to ongoing COVID-19 response work, requests are currently
being triaged and those relating to Covid-19 processed as a priority.
Remaining requests are being assessed as per the Ombudsman’s guidance
(which can be found here:

and processed accordingly.
