Income Support weekly update report to 20 November

A O'Sullivan made this Official Information request to Ministry of Social Development

The request was partially successful.

From: A O'Sullivan

Dear Ministry of Social Development,

The MSD Income Support weekly update report to 20 November shows a decrease of 30 in the number of Jobseeker Support – Work Ready recipients in the week prior. But 2,141 cancels into work from Jobseeker Support during that same week. Could you please advise the reason/s for the difference as it is not immediately obvious. Thanks.

Yours faithfully,

A O'Sullivan

Dear A O'Sullivan

Thank you for your request of 28 November 2020 to the Ministry of Social
Development (the Ministry) requesting, under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act), information advising of the difference in Jobseeker
Support-Work Ready data.

The Ministry can advise that the change in the number of recipients of
Jobseeker Support - Work Ready during or between particular weeks depends
on a number of factors. Some of these factors include:

                -              The number of benefit grants in a
particular week

                -              The number of other types of cancellation
off benefit other than cancels for Work

                -              Whether or not a client has had their
benefit temporary suspended due to work or a benefit sanction

                -              Whether or not the grants and cancellation
was active in the reference week. Grants and cancellations can be back or
forward dated.

Additionally grants and cancellations are not counts of people but rather
actions in the Ministry's system, while Jobseeker Support - Work Ready
numbers are counts of people in receipt of the payment. As a result
cancellation alone will not match up with the change in Jobseeker Support
- Work Ready numbers.
