From: Marie McMahon
Dear Andrew Little,
Dear Sir. As mp for newplymouth I am writing re staffing levels of rest homes and hospital level of care.
It has been almost 2 decades since the govt looked at this.
Today, we have higher medical management , palliative care and people have many co morbidities not seen 15 years ago!!!
We still struggle with 4 or 5 staff on a good day to manage complex patients. With one RN overseeing and practically running ragged all day to try and minimise incidents and ensure BASIC nursing cares are given. As a previous palliative care nurse I find it extremely distressing. It is of paramount importance as it will only get worse.
Go visit some hospital level of care rest homes and speak to care givers!!!
It's pretty disgusting what is going on. Care giver do their best but it's not enough. People don't get basic cares anymore, ie nails cut, shaved , glasses cleaned. They just are not groomed properly. Even toileting is an issue due to staffing!!!!!
Imagine if it was someone your loved!! Families complain! We feel so bad!!
Please please help.
Yours faithfully,
Marie McMahon
