From: OIA Requests

Kia ora Glen Treweek
As noted in the Ombudsman guide for making official information requests
([1]https://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/reso...),
an agency is not required to respond in terms of the Official Information
Act 1982 if you are deemed ineligible to submit a request; however, an
agency should still deal with your request in a reasonable manner.
As such, the Ministry has reconsidered your request of 25 August 2020 and
is providing some information that may be useful to you.
Information requested: Please provide all information received by the
Ministry regarding COVID-19 detection in wastewater, including date,
location, action taken following receipt of information.
The Ministry of Health does not hold any information specific to your
request; however you may be interested to know that the Institute of
Environmental Science and Research (ESR) has recently established methods
for detecting SARS-CoV-2 viral fragments in wastewater through ongoing
sampling around some managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) facilities.
Further information about this can be found on ESR’s website at the
following address:
[2]https://www.esr.cri.nz/home/about-esr/me...
The Ministry has also published COVID-19 disease indicator reports, which
provide an end-to-end view of the public health response to COVID-19.
These reports are available on the Ministry website at:
[3]https://www.health.govt.nz/about-ministr...
Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to
review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [email address] or by calling 0800 802
602.
