Dear Des,

I sent you the following email, however, sent it to your personal email and not to FYI - apologies for that.

As I say, am still awaiting some figures so hopefully will have these early in the new year.

Unfortunately the office is not open until the 6th (which is when I'm formally back). I will follow up for you then.

Kind regards, Nicole

Dear Miell, Nicole,

Thank you for presenting some of the information requested.
I am surprised that you have been unable to determine the cost to purchase the land at Barry Curtis Park.
I have an article quoting a senior Council Official that states the land was purchased for $3M in 1996 and was valued at $150M in 2010.
I would find it inconceivable that such a significant purchase has not been recorded in precise detail?
If your information is correct then a full public inquiry is warranted.
Please revisit my original requests.
Thanks.

Yours sincerely,

Des Cowie

Thank you for your email Mr Cowie.

I will look into this further for you. From what I gather thus far, the land/s were purchased in the mid-90s and finding the information may mean considerable research through former Manukau City Council archives - this may take some time.

I will keep you updated on progress.

Regards, Nicole

Dear Nicole Miell,

Appreciate your efforts to source the information requested.

I find it hard to understand why finding the cost of the land purchase should be any more difficult than the cost of the planting - information that you have already provided?

Most organisations carry a capital assets register which, by law, require the purchase cost to be declared in order that depreciation may be determined from that amount.

I would not expect Auckland Council to be any different from any other organisation in the country.

Yours sincerely,

Des Cowie
