Dear Christchurch City Council,

Noting institutional racism which exists within public institutions within
New Zealand, what is the percentage of staff who are Māori, Pakeha, Asian,
Pacifica and Other. Additionally, what is the male and female percentage
within these subgroups?

Also, what is the criteria for the determination of ethnicity for these
statistics, does CCC collect the information in which it is possible for
an individual to be counted in multiple ethnic groups at one time (e.g
someone who identifies as Māori, Pakeha and Asian) or an individual is
counted once, in which only the main ethnic group they identify with is
counted.

As at 30 June 2020, the Christchurch City Council had the following
ethnicity mix (using Statistics New Zealand Level 1 Ethnicity Categories):

This information is based upon an individual’s  declared primary
ethnicity. While we recognise that an individual can have multiple
ethnicities (as per Statistics New Zealand standards), currently our
technology supports capture of only a single ethnicity.
