Number of returnees to NZ having left during compulsory quarantine period
Nick Farlow made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment did not have the information requested.

Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,
There is much talk at present about "bringing NZers home from overseas". This implies presumably that those individuals left prior to NZ's borders being 'closed'.
I note that travel overseas is not necessarily prohibited though advised against. Please advise how many people are or have been in compulsory quarantine, where those people also left NZ during the quarantine period. (e.g had initially left NZ after 20 March 2020 and subsequently returned)
Yours faithfully,
Nick Farlow

    Kia ora Nick,

I am working on your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
 OIA):

There is much talk at present about "bringing NZers home from overseas".
This implies presumably that those individuals left prior to NZ's borders
 being 'closed'.

I note that travel overseas is not necessarily prohibited though advised
against.  Please advise how many people are or have been in compulsory
quarantine, where those people also left NZ during the quarantine period.
(e.g had initially left NZ after 20 March 2020 and subsequently returned)

I would like some clarification from you in order to proceed. Can you
please advise if the following information is what you are requesting?

1.      The number of New Zealanders (New Zealand citizens or residence
class visa holders) who departed New Zealand on or after 20 March 2020 and
have since returned, and have been held in mandatory isolation or
 quarantine facilities upon their return.

I would appreciate a response before close of business 1 July 2020,
otherwise I will proceed based on the interpretation.

Ngā mihi

    Kia ora Nick,

I am writing to keep you updated on the progress of your OIA request. As
advised previously, we have interpreted your request as follows:

The number of New Zealanders (New Zealand citizens or residence class visa
holders) who departed New Zealand on or after 20 March 2020 and have since
returned, and have been held in mandatory isolation or quarantine
 facilities upon their return.

MBIE do not hold this exact information. We have consulted with the
Ministry of Health who advise that they also do not hold this information.
To assist you, we are intending to provide you with the numbers of New
Zealanders (New Zealand citizens or residence class visa holders) who
departed New Zealand on or after 20 March 2020, and who have returned on
or after 10 April 2020. This uses the assumption that all arrivals into
New Zealand on or after 10 April were required to be in managed isolation
 or quarantine facilities.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Ngā mihi
