Pre-requisites for graduate entrance to MBChB year 2

K Roe (Account suspended) made this Official Information request to University of Auckland

Response to this request is long overdue. By law University of Auckland should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: K Roe (Account suspended)

Dear University of Auckland,

I apologise for making this an official request for information.

- Staff do not respond to my requests.

- When staff do not acknowledge receipt of my request I send an additional request for acknowledgement.

- I have discovered that I have not been asked to supply additional information in a timely fashion, at times.

- But staff say they do not respond to my requests because I send too many requests.

So I make this an official request for information:

The University of Auckland has transcripts from me from the University of Waikato, Otago, and Auckland. I would like to know:

1) What (if any) First Year courses I would need to do in order for entry to year II of MBChB.

E.g., I am only biological physics short of the entire biomedical science first year but I have done a number of courses in psychology.

2) Please can you tell me what the best case allowable First Year would look like for me (what courses would credit to the first year). I don't mind which course credits as General Education, for example, but it would make sense to select the one with the A+ so as to allow me the best GPA since that is what happens for all the other candidates. Apparently even for the candidates with disability!

Yours faithfully,

A person in New Zealand,

Kelly Roe.

Dear University of Auckland,

I would like to clarify that I am NOT TRYING TO BE DIFFICULT but I do appreciate that it may be GENUINELY DIFFICULT.

I am willing to HELP FIGURE OUT WHAT IS FAIR but I need for people to TRY AND WORK WITH ME instead of ignoring me because they don't know what to do.

I have completed the core 4 papers: BIOSCI107, CHEM110, MEDSCI142, POPLHLTH111.

Rather than crediting POPLHLTH111 I would rather credit PUBH192 (Otago). PUBH192 was done as a repeat paper (after POPLHLTH111), however, so maybe it isn't fair to other students to credit repeat papers if other students have not been credited for repeat papers ever before. Maybe a decision needs to be made on that.

I have completed CELS191 and BIOC192 (Otago). I assume they credit for BIOSCI101 and BIOSCI106, respectively.

So that leaves spaces for PHYSICS160 and a general education paper.

I have not done PHYSICS 160 or the Otago equivalent.

I have heard that there may be problems crediting courses that were done more than 5 years ago. I do not see / understand how there can be problems crediting courses that are completed on a 9 point scale, from a New Zealand University (including from the University of Auckland), however. Degrees do not expire in 5 years (Stuart McCutcheon didn't need to stand down because Massey called and wanted their Degree back which meant he was no longer qualiflied to be VC) so I do not understand how courses completed can expire, either.

I have completed many psychology courses at stages 1-3. I ask that one of them (one with an A+) credit towards the first year of MBChB (if I can get my admission successfully processed at some point) instead of HLTHPSYCH122. I also ask that any course with an A+ is credited as general education.

In other words, I request that I not have to do Biological Physics.

If I could be informed what (if any) first year courses I would need to do.

And clarification on the 5 years requirement since every year processing my application is delayed courses pop off the back of the 5 years.

Yours faithfully,

K Roe

Dear Ms Roe,

I refer to your email of 24 February 2020. Your requests 1 and 2 are requests for the University to provide you with advice about your study options. These are not requests for official information held by the University, as the University would need to create information in order to respond. The Official Information Act does not require agencies to do this.

Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Ewert

Dear Ms Roe,

I refer to your second email of 24 February 2020. Your request for advice on which first year courses you would need to do is a request for the University to provide you with advice about your study options. This is not a request for official information held by the University, as the University would need to create information in order to respond. The Official Information Act does not require agencies to do this. Your request for an explanation or justification about the University's credit regulations is also not an official information, for the same reason.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Rebecca Ewert,

I make an official request for information because you are required to respond by law.

I am not asking you to make up new information.

I am asking you to apply the rules and regulations of the MBChB to my transcripts in order to tell me what (if any) courses I have left to do for credit towards first year of MBChB.

Please can you forward my request to the relevant person / committee and provide the information that I have asked for that you are required to provide by law.

Thanks.

Kelly Roe.

Dear Rebecca Ewert,

I don't understand how anybody with reading comprehension could interpret my request as a request for information about my study 'options'. It was a request for information about study REQUIREMENTS.

Do the rules prevent crediting courses more than 5 years old (from a NZ University on a 9 point scale) or not?

Do you plan on introducing a rule in the spirit of 'no kelly's'?

This is getting beyond ridiculous.

People do post about what courses they were credited to online forums, and so on.

I am only asking for people to be fair. And to follow the rules. The later if you have to chose. Consistently. Cheers.

Yours sincerely,

K Roe

Dear Rebecca Ewert,

Why are you trying to make more work for the Ombudsman?

If you could let me know who within the University of Auckland is willing and able to answer my question in a reasonable timeframe then we can all move on with our lives.

I don't understand why you would want to waste thousands upon thousands upon thousands of taxpayers dollars and and so many weeks, months, years of everybodies time.

The New Zealand Public and our Foreign Investors expect the University of Auckland to conduct it's business fairly and transparently. Our expectations are even higher on Professional Degrees such as Medicine and Law.

I am requesting to know (according to University of Auckland regulations on admission to MBChB II for Graduate Entry applicants) what courses I have done that would credit towards the first year and what I would have remaining to do for entry to year II.

Why is this so hard?

K Roe
