Facial or human recognition electroninc surveillance use
Tim Rowlands made this Official Information request to Christchurch City Council
The request was successful.
From: Tim Rowlands
Dear Christchurch City Council,
I would like to know if the Christchurch City Council itself or any companies or affiliates either contracted or partnered with the Christchurch City Council (including CTOC) are using any form of technology designed to identify people, vehicles or objects without human interaction (including systems where an image, video or other such thing is flagged by a computer system which then requires human validation).
If so, what systems are in use, how are they being used and for what reason are they being used? Furthermore, if these systems are in use, how are they being secured and who has access to the images or other such things generated by these systems?
If there are not any systems currently in use, has the Christchurch City Council been looking at implementing such systems? If so, please provide the details of which companies/individuals have been contacted to demonstrate or preview such services.
Yours faithfully,
Timothy Rowlands
