1)how many people have been accepted in the alternative category for dentistry and medicine at Otago over the last 5 years?
2) What is the lowest GPA of those accepted in the alternative category for dentistry and medicine that do not qualify for a subcategory?
2) what is the lowest GPA of those accepted in the alternative category for dentistry and medicine that are in the rural subcategory?

Mōrena Hayley,

I write in response to your request for further clarification of your
official information request of 22 January 2020 regarding admission to the
MB ChB and BDS at the University of Otago under the Alternative category.
You asked:

Even though you have stated a different way of assessing is used I would
still like my questions regarding lowest gpa answered please

As stated previously, the Alternative category is designed to create a
pathway into Medicine and Dentistry for people from a diverse range of
backgrounds and experience (for instance, they may have allied health
professional experience). Therefore, comparative assessment of a GPA does
not feature in the admission process in the same way it is used in the
First Year Health Sciences and Graduate categories.  Because GPA is not
used in the assessment of applicants in the Alternative category, it is
not calculated and so is not held by the University.  I am therefore
refusing your request pursuant to section 18(g) of the Official
Information Act.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Claire
