Jacinda's progress on coalition agreement

T. Benseman made this Official Information request to Jacinda Ardern

The request was partially successful.

From: T. Benseman

Dear Jacinda Ardern,

What progress have you made on the following coalition agreement environmental goals which you signed with NZFirst? Regarding your pledge to gain "higher water quality standards for urban and rural using measurements which take into
account seasonal differences." Has there been any thoughts or actions by you into reducing the two major pollutants - petrochemical urea and sodium fluoroacetate, which has the rather disgusting habit of littering our rivers with dead rotting animals and is also very cruel, taking up to 120 hours to kill pigs, during which time they vomit 13.6 times on average before death. Native Kea, thankfully, only take 30 hours to die from the same substance.

And regarding "piloting alternatives to
1080" which you also signed up to in the agreement, what have you actually done with this?

Thank you,

T. Benseman

Dear T. Benseman

On behalf of the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) I am seeking clarification
of your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act),
received on 12 December 2019. You requested:

“What progress have you made on the following coalition agreement
environmental goals which you signed with NZFirst? Regarding your pledge
to gain "higher water quality standards for urban and rural using
measurements which take into account seasonal differences.”

Has there been any thoughts or actions by you into reducing the two major
pollutants - petrochemical urea and sodium fluoroacetate, which has the
rather disgusting habit of littering our rivers with dead rotting animals
and is also very cruel, taking up to 120 hours to kill pigs, during which
time they vomit 13.6 times on average before death. Native Kea,
thankfully, only take 30 hours to die from the same substance.

And regarding "piloting alternatives to1080" which you also signed up to
in the agreement, what have you actually done with this?”

In order to assist PMO to assess your request, I would appreciate it if
you could please provide me with more detail about what specific
information you will like relating to progress of the Coalition Agreement
environment goals.

You have requested information on the higher water quality standards for
urban and rural using measurements which take into account seasonal
differences,  however, this commitment relates to the Government’s
freshwater programme which is overseen by Minister Parker rather issues
relating to the use of 1080 which is the responsibility of Minister Sage.

I would appreciate a response by 27 February 2020.  Thank you
