Roads near Wellington War Memorial Park

Greg Bodnar made this Official Information request to New Zealand Transport Agency

The request was successful.

From: Greg Bodnar

Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,

I have been looking at the NZTA website and have been unable to find any images online that depict the changes to the roads near the new War Memorial Park, despite seeing images posted around the location. Can you please provide either an image file or PDF file that clearly indicates Tory St, Tasman St, Taranaki St and any roads that traverse the new park.

Yours faithfully,

Greg Bodnar

Greg

My apologies for the delay in getting images to you of the possible road
layouts through the Memorial Park.  When viewing the images please be
aware that the Park design is still in development and I do not anticipate
the design being confirmed by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage until
after the next Community Forum which will take place in late November or
early December.  The community forums involve representatives of the local
community, interest groups and stakeholders and have been organised by the
Ministry for Culture and Heritage as part of the park development
process.

The range of images include slight differences in how the connections are
shown, with some images showing vehicles on the alignment of the old
Buckle St (which we refer to as the southern lane) and others showing a
representation which more implies a pedestrian or shared space. To date
there have been a range of views and inputs discussed at the forums
regarding the detail of the lane through the park.  The various views
reflect issues such as access needs, security, pedestrian, cycle and
ceremonial use.  Hopefully the detail will become clear following the next
forum.

Large scale printed images can be viewed in the information centre at 175
Taranaki St and our staff will be happy to talk to visitors about the
development of the design and associated works.

I hope this helps

Thanks

Brian

Dear Brian Aspin,

I've looked through the images you've provided and the one image that I was specifically expecting was absent. Instead of an artist drawing or a rendering of a perspective, it was an overhead view of the area between Tory St/Tasman St and the Taranaki St intersection with Buckle St. I'm particularly concerned about the design around Tory St and Tasman St, whether it will become a hazard zone for pedestrians, cyclists and cars, being a function of the road layout.

I'm aware that the image is available at the information centre, but the hours of operation are limited to times at which I'm at work and and unable to take your offer for an in-person discussion. If possible, could you include the overhead-view design image?

Yours sincerely,

Greg Bodnar

Greg

Is the attached image the one you refer to? It shows the western end linking to Taranaki St from the road through the park and also the eastern end of the same road which is initially unconnected to Sussex St pending the outcome of the Basin Bridge BOI. As I indicated in my last email we do not expect the park design to be finalised until December so all these images should be viewed as design drafts and work in progress rather than final designs.

Please let me know if I have provided the wrong image or if you need more.

Thanks

Brian
