Please supply updated information regarding the licensing of the NZ localities dataset
Richard Clark made this Official Information request to Fire and Emergency New Zealand
The request was partially successful.
From: Richard Clark
Dear Fire and Emergency New Zealand,
In item 24 of your OIA response dated 23rd May to myself, entitled "Information Request - comms related to licensing the NZ localities dataset under Creative Commons license since January 2014", you state:
"FENZ is conscious that the technology landscape on which datasets can be distributed and maintained is rapidly evolving. FENZ is presently assessing the potential for NZ Localities to be made available to the public in real-time on its public website. If that is appropriate, and the Public Risk can be appropriately mitigated, FENZ anticipates making the Dataset available pursuant to a Creative Commons licence."
Please supply any correspondence or documents related to providing NZ Localities on the public website, or making the dataset available pursuant to a Creative Commons licence produced since 1 May 2018. Thanks!
Nga mihi
Richard Clark

The request had a timeline extended.
The response compromised of two parts. The first PDF contains "Schedule 1", a summary of the information I requested. The second PDF is a copy of a previous response from 2018.
The Schedule 1 summary consists of 7 points. Key facts include:
1. The Localities dataset has been included in the "Key datasets for resilience and climate change" by LINZ.
2. FENZ considered publishing the dataset to their public website in 2018.
3. FENZ concluded (for the second time) they do not have the resources to make the dataset Creative Commons.
4. LINZ appears to be attempting to create a single point of truth for suburbs and localities in NZ that will be "publicly available". FENZ intends to appraise LINZ of the Public Risks that should be mitigated.
