Detail around name rejection appeals
Charles Mager made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Charles Mager to read a recent response and update the status.
From: Charles Mager
Dear Department of Internal Affairs,
Thank you for furnishing information about your name rejection basis. I appreciate you doing so. But I am very concerned that your current processes are still very biased in terms of culture, religion and other belief systems.
I am writing now to request further information. Please provide me with detail (for the same period that you furnished the rejected names database) of the names that were appealed and the basis for the acceptance or rejection of the name resulting from the appeal.
Yours faithfully,
Charles Mager

Dear Alysha Stevenson,
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate you taking the time to research my name query (as an aside Alysha is a very nice name, I like it). But I am very concerned at the lack of record keeping regarding the reasons for rejecting name appeals. This leaves my concerns about the biases that I referenced in place.
I do recommend that going forward record of the specific reasons be recorded and collated as this is vital to ensuring transparency. It will also help you to identify both conscious and unconscious bias.
Yours sincerely,
Charles Mager
