UoA: Records mentioning scientist Patrick Frank
Chris Johnston made this Official Information request to University of Auckland
The request was refused by University of Auckland.
From: Chris Johnston
Dear University of Auckland,
Please provide any records (including but not limited to internal/external: documents, emails, notes, minutes, text messages, or social media messages) mentioning scientist Patrick Frank.
For context - so that you can correctly identify the individual - some links relevant to his work are mentioned in the links below.
1) This is the peer reviewed paper (published on 6 September 2019) which finds that the statistical techniques used for forecasting global surface air temperature have not used an appropriate error propagation technique - and are therefore unreliable forecasts for the IPCC or governments to be using for policiy decisions.

2) This is Patrick Frank's blog about his paper when it was published - which was rather scathing and impolite.

Dear University of Auckland,
This is to note that UoA 's communication regarding this OIA on the fyi.org.nz portal has only been recorded against the following OIA (as a way of treating all OIAs as one):
https://fyi.org.nz/request/11358-uoa-rec...
These OIAs are for different lines of research and individuals.... and should not be combined without consultation and agreement. There may be economies of scale to get the same person to research and answer all OIAs but the content should be included in each OIA as appropriate.
This assists the requester (myself) but there is also consideration to be given to the fyi.org.nz portal and those members of the public that use it to understand what occurred, any information obtained, and this may prevent in future repeated questions being asked.
At this stage the UoA has responded that the information "cannot be made available
without substantial collation or research" so the following is my response to UoA:
Please confirm that my response has been received and that the requested information will be provided.
The UoA get to nominate a reasonable date, but given that the UoA should have already undertaken quantitative searches to objectively determine that this OIA would be too much work I anticipate that your answers would not require a long turnaround.
Yours faithfully,
Chris Johnston
