Survival of kiwi with or without aerial 1080 pest control.
Dianne Maxwell made this Official Information request to Eugenie Sage
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Dianne Maxwell to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Dianne Maxwell
Dear Eugenie Sage,
On 12 September 2018, in parliamentary questions, order 21285, put by Dr Shane Reti, you answered that "without predator control kiwi populations decline by 2-3% per year. With aerial 1080 predator control, their numbers increase by 6-10%."
Could I please have all information that is held by DoC for the following:
- Kiwi numbers recorded before and after 1080 aerial drops for every drop carried out in the past 20 years.
- How many and which 1080 aerial drops occurred that had no monitoring take place.
- How many dead kiwi have been recorded, what were they tested for, and what have they died from. Please advise whether they have come from a 1080 area or otherwise.
- Kiwi numbers recorded over a period of time in areas that have had no pest control whatsover.
- Kiwi numbers recorded over a period of time in areas that have had ground pest control only.
- Please state the years the pest control took place in each of the above.
Nga mihi Dianne Maxwell.
