The request was successful.

From: john luke

Dear Andrew Little,

Based on the information on your website,

https://www.justice.govt.nz/about/lawyer...

I would like to know how many court interpreter has Auckland and Wellington courts appointed.

Also, how many interpreter has been appointed for the Immigration and Protection Tribunal.

Would you have the name for these individuals to share with the public? The reason for this is because lots of company or individuals said they are court appointed, but I was unable to see any record from your website.

Yours faithfully,

john luke

Hi Mr Luke,

I am writing to seek clarification  on your Official Information Act 1982
(OIA) request, in which you requested information regarding court
appointed interpreters. There are a couple of points I would like to
discuss and clarify with you before we can collate a response:

o Our Case Management System counts the number of events that had an
interpreter. This is how we usually count appointed interpreters as a
lot of service providers are organisations and so may have multiple
interpreters but would only be counted as one provider. Is this
sufficient?

o Would you like statistics for all courts in the wider Auckland and
Wellington regions, i.e. Auckland/South Auckland/Manukau, and
Wellington/Porirua/The Hutt Valley, or just Wellington District/High
Courts and Auckland District/High Courts?

o Also we are unable to release the names of the interpreters appointed
for privacy reasons so we will be unable to respond to this section of
your request.

Regards,

Jerram

Dear Watts, Jerram,

Thank you for your email, please see my reply below:

o Our Case Management System counts the number of events that had an
interpreter. This is how we usually count appointed interpreters as a
lot of service providers are organisations and so may have multiple
interpreters but would only be counted as one provider. Is this
sufficient?

Yes, that is fine, thank you

o Would you like statistics for all courts in the wider Auckland and
Wellington regions, i.e. Auckland/South Auckland/Manukau, and
Wellington/Porirua/The Hutt Valley, or just Wellington District/High
Courts and Auckland District/High Courts?

Yes, all courts in wider AKL and WLG regions.

o Also we are unable to release the names of the interpreters appointed
for privacy reasons so we will be unable to respond to this section of
your request.

But would you able to provide their company's name? Like I said there are people claimed they are court appointed, but how can the customer check what they said are correct. Also would you give them a certificate or ID card for such appointment? Maybe the customer can ask them to show their ID/certificate? Thank you

Yours sincerely,

john luke
