11 May 2012
Dear Ministry of Justice,
Thanks to Barack Obama, same-sex marriage is in the news. I'm
interested in knowing whether the New Zealand government has done
any policy work on this topic, so I'd like to request the following
information under the Official Information Act 1982:
* all documents (including briefings, correspondence, policy advice
etc) on same-sex marriage
I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about
this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the
fyi.org.nz website.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Harris

Dear Ministry of Justice,
This is a public website, so I'm not really happy about posting a
phone number for the world to google. If you need to confine the
date-range of the request, then I think "since 2005" (post Civil
Union Act) would be reasonable.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Harris

Dear Mr Harris
Official Information Act Request
I refer to your email of 11 May 2012 requesting, under the Official
Information Act 1982 “all documents (including briefings, correspondence,
policy advice etc) on same-sex marriage”.
A response to your request is currently being prepared. However due to
the consultations necessary to make a decision on the request, a proper
response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
Accordingly, I am extending the time limit for response to this request
for a further 15 working days under section 15A of the Official
Information Act and will respond to you by 2 July 2012.
You have the right under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act to
complain to the Ombudsman about the decision to extend the time frame for
response to your request.
Yours sincerely

Dear Mr Harris
Please find attached part 1 of the Ministry's response to your OIA
request. It was originally sent on Friday but, as per attached, bounced
back due to the large attachment. It has now been broken down into 3
parts, the other 2 will follow shortly.
Kind regards
